After 7 Months’ success, I was exposed to multiple different creative accounts on TikTok and Instagram. They were all very minimalistic with the amount of shots, but the shots included were very creative and stood out on my for you page. Using these minimalistic, creative TikToks as inspiration, I just thought that I could pick up my camera and film four shots and combine them together for a short TikTok. I thought it would be a good opportunity to experiment with camera settings. And because it was a new camera, I could learn different aspects that would later prepare me for bigger projects.

Both videos were mainly to introduce the Pardon My Brain portfolio and assert its presence on TikTok, especially after the 7 Months video. They are about showing the relationship between me and Pardon My Brain. With the Identity TikTok, despite it being really short, I wanted to explore the relationship between my identity and Pardon My Brain in a way that is visually apparent. It shows my world during the time, which was whatever I created for Pardon My Brain, so it shows the creation for the portfolio.

In terms of the second video, which is what I like to call the Tyler, the Creator video, I just wanted to really present all of my favourite shots in a way that makes me feel more confident with my work. Tyler, the Creator has always been a big inspiration when it comes to his creativity, and especially the way he explains his creative expression and being confident about that. Some of his quotes stand out to me and give me the confidence to keep making a portfolio and keep making stuff for myself. But making this TikTok was a great thing for me because the audio in itself would explain what I would feel, and what any creator would feel.

In terms of filming these videos, it was a simple pick up the camera and do what you can with it. This led me to creating the shots that I did. and playing around with different exposure levels and lighting. But another thing that was the trickiest shot to do, was in the Tyler, the Creator video, was the silhouette of me holding the camera on the tripod. Because of the lighting I had, the shutter speed had to be really low to get rid of banding, and I also had to film in black and white. I didn’t have an orange spotlight, so I had to go through in post and add an orange overlay, which I think was quite successful as it looks like an orange spotlight as I intended.
