After graduating uni, everything started to feel like a struggle. The industry felt more gate kept than ever before, and opportunities are so hard to come by. I kept on receiving one rejection email after another, and felt degraded to feeling a sense of hopelessness to even being given the chance to make the first step into the industry. The frustration bottled up, and I wanted to demonstrate it in the best way that I knew how. I put my feelings into creation, which is the fundamental purpose of Pardon My Brain. I wanted this to resonate with others that were feeling the same way.
This video is possibly the video that I’m most proud of to date. I still look back at it in awe of how successful it came out. The video itself was an absolute nightmare to make. The script for 7 Months was actually written at the start of February, and considering it wasn’t released until the start of the next month, I think that in itself explains how much of a nightmare it was.

This short was created entirely by myself, from planning and filming to editing. It was a solo project by its very definition. With limited locations and resources, my creativity was challenged. How can I tell the story I want, the way I want to, just limited by the same four walls around me? This pushed me to expand my creative abilities to produce shots that I felt passionate about creating and met my standards.
Titled ‘7 Months’, it focuses on the period where it’s long enough after university where you start to struggle, and feel like you’re falling into an abyss of despair from the situation. This was one of the first pieces of work that I posted online, hoping that other people felt the same way. It turns out that people did feel the same way, to the tune of 50,000+ views and 11,000+ likes on TikTok. Being the first video on a blank account, with only a few hashtags to go along with it, 7 Months reached its audience.
Each shot was filmed multiple times on different days, because during this period I was testing my colour grading abilities and trying to film accordingly. However, it wasn’t very successful as I’m pretty sure it broke my computer. A computer that got me through all of A-Level and all university and it was finally taking its last breath on me because of 7 Months.
Here are some very messy storyboards paired with the final shot :))

As I mentioned earlier, my computer was really not enjoying how big the files were that I was editing, considering I was recording in 4K. Not only that, but when you are trying to duplicate yourself on multiple different layers and blend them together when your computer is already gasping for some relief, it’s not going to end well. The project then had to be moved to my Mac. This was even worse to edit on but at least it got the job done. The five hour export time was slightly inconvenient :/ and the fact that I had to do those 5 hour exports multiple times due to different errors with the MacBook made it ten times more appreciated.
As mentioned earlier, the video related to many and therefore it was quite successful for my first video uploaded to TikTok. This is exactly the type of content I want to make. something that is personal to me but many can relate, and hopefully inspire others, or send a bigger message. Not only that but my Dad liked it :))
