What a throwback. This module assesses camera and lighting only, and I had to come up with a short little narrative for a piece where I had the opportunity to show off my camera and lighting skills. Aspects such as narrative and sound weren’t prioritised, and the mark from the film only took into account my camera and lighting abilities..

Looking back on it, I think I have improved a whole lot because this stuff was intense. This was created back in second year, which meant that my skills were yet to develop to the point that they have today.

I even used a track and dolly to film some shots in this film, which only just fit into my tiny, box university room. I booked out the most kit that I had for a university project at the time to try and experiment. I wasn’t too good with the camera and didn’t quite know what I was doing at the time, but I had a vision that I wanted to create.

Despite my belief that the film wasn’t of the standard that my future pieces were, it was nominated for the university’s end of year awards, in the Best Camera & Lighting section.

It was an enjoyable experience to play with the lighting in the film, and push my boundaries at the time to use my camera skills to tell a story through limited means.
