For our Creative Docs and Features module, we had to do a creative presentation explaining what creativity is, how the module has helped inspire creativity, and what our next project was going to be about whilst also reflecting on our previous project.
As I’ve said before, I was working independently in this class. So rather than doing a slideshow or a standard presentation that is read off the board like other classmates did, I decided to do a performative piece that represented my creativity. I had a video playing in the background whilst I performed the words of the presentation in front of the screen. I rehearsed the script a lot to keep in time with the visuals in the background to produce a presentation that had the biggest impact possible as a performative piece. In fact, I would go into the room where we had the class in the early hours of the morning and I’d rehearse it to make sure I was in time with the visuals and that the visuals were being projected properly. I wanted every element to line up perfectly and I took time to make sure that the presentation would be delivered to perfection. It got me a high first grade and I was extremely proud of how the presentation went considering I did a somewhat theatrical performance in front of the whole class
When I saw Kendrick Lamar perform live at the Mr Morale and the Big Steppers tour, I was inspired by the use of shadows and the way he performed his songs in front of a projected screen that almost mirrored what he was performing, and that inspired my creative presentation.
Below is the only video version I have of my perforomance which was a rehearsal I did in the class at 6:30am before any lectures took place. obviously it was a rough take but hopefully it shows the quality of it :))
